Weekend Whimsy 10.6.2017

Friends, I have bad news for you if you’re one of my local peeps in the Twin Cities area.

It’s supposed to be hecka cold and rainy this weekend.

We’re all longing to be sauntering through apple orchards and shuffling through falling leaves, but we’re gonna be stuck inside instead. Sniff, sniff.

So today’s Weekend Whimsy is going to have a decidedly cozy feel to it. Because if there’s one way to get through a rainy weekend, it’s to lean in to the coze.

Relax: Do a DIY bubble bath

Give this bath recipe a try, courtesy of Real Simple:

Mix ½ cup mild liquid hand or body soap, 1 tablespoon sugar or honey, and 1 egg white together in a clear container. Draw your bath and pour the entire mixture under the running water. It might sound weird to put egg white in your bath, but not only does it create stronger, longer-lasting bubbles, it also tightens skin while acting as a natural astringent. Honey is a humectant, which is just a fancy word for saying it attracts moisture to the skin. Craving even more moisture? Add a tablespoon of light sesame or almond oil.

Listen: Miles Davis Kind of Blue

It might be cliche, but rainy weather makes me want to listen to jazz. Certain Jazz just evokes images of picturesque streetlights reflected in shimmering rain puddles at dusk. Whether or not you’re surrounded by picturesque streetlights, consider getting the same vibes by popping on a little Miles.

Bonus points if you pick it up on vinyl. The slight scratching in the background will only add to the tactile-cozy vibes.

Pop this baby on, grab your snuggliest blanket, and pour yourself a glass of wine. Or if you’re not feeling quite so indulgent, may I suggest…

Enjoy:  Celestial Seasonings’ Cinnamon Apple Spice Tea

I am a Apple Cider swiggin’ gal. I love the stuff and could drink it all day, every day. Unfortunately, drinking large amounts of this delicious nectar means drinking large amounts of sugar, and I hear that’s not great for you.

So when I need my fix, this delicious caffeine-free tea does the job quite well. Fall flavorings can easily veer into the “cloying” territory, but not this gem. It’s the perfect amount of spicy-sweet. And because it’s basically flavored water, I can drink this all day, every day, if I’m so inclined.

Friends, I hope this gives you some ideas for how to make the most of this cozy, rainy weekend!

This week I would love to know, how do you best like to celebrate rainy days?

Talk soon!
